Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study of, diagnosis, and medical treatment of disorders of the leg, ankle and foot. A Podiatrist trains full time for 3 years to obtain a BSc Honours degree in Podiatric Medicine.
Podiatrists are qualified to treat people with arthritis, diabetes, nail surgery and sports injuries. Some specialise in Musculoskeletal / Sports podiatry, children's foot problems or high risk feet & wound care.
Even if your feet are in good condition, you may consider seeing, or be referred to a Podiatrist for custom made orthotics. These orthotic devices can correct imbalances in biomechanics, re-align your foot, take pressure off venerable areas or simply make footwear more comfortable.
To use the title podiatrist or chiropodist and practice in the UK, the individual must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
